• Full Beaver Moon – November
At this time of year, beaver fur is at its most perfect stage. Back in the old days, traps were set during this month to ensure a good supply of warm winter clothing. Both waterproof and warm, beaver fur was highly prized, and if the hunter did not gather before the next full moon, the swamps froze over and the beaver were sleeping – the time to trap was short. The name of Beaver Moon is also derived from the fact that beavers, themselves, are actively preparing for winter now.
Aboriginal peoples respect the beaver as a great spirit animal, holding big medicine. They are the builders of their own life – something we all strive to do. This is a wonderful time for setting protection around your home, and protecting yourself from `cold` winter winds that try to interfere with your personal spiritual evolution.
The month of November can be overwhelming, but take heart – this is the last moon of action for the year. It is time to bring all things to a point of rest. Finish up the harvesting, gathering, and projects of summer and fall – make ready for the calm quiet of impending winter.
If you have the opportunity to bask in the moonbeams this full moon, give yourself that gift – allow this to become a time of quiet self reflection and internal peace. The time for rest is soon at hand.
The November full moon is also sometimes referred to as 'Frosty Moon'.
