The psyche is the original multiple realm portal. It’s the first portal that we enter as a child–remember those imaginary friends?–and
because it’s within us, all that’s required is an intentional crossing
over. We cross over unintentionally, through cultural inductions; now
we can cross with intention. This is a crossing rather than a
tunneling down or a soaring above, and it’s the most immediate passage
into non-ordinary reality. The richness of the psyche is that it not
only embodies and encompasses all of our Self (the multiplicity of
the human spirit and soul), but it also contains access points to
other non-ordinary realms.
Traveling into the InnerRealm allows us to access the geography of the psyche. By traveling throughout the realm, we have an opportunity
to discover and explore our own inner topography. In this way, we can
care for the psyche and uncover the soul’s yearnings: its hopes and
triumphs as well as its fears and doubts.
We continually cross over into these realms, both individually and collectively, to explore and engage through story and narrative.
Usually and simply through thought-patterns that reinforce the
consensus reality, the world we’ve all agreed upon, even if only by
default not choice.
We have crossed over from a very young age not only individually but in families, groups, communities, nations, races, personal and
collective beliefs/myths and basic thinking, thinking, thinking. The
collective/group image stories have great influence.
One of the most exciting applications of the sojourning practice is in relationship and community building. Of course this includes
relationship with the Self, relationship with partners, friends and
family and ultimately where there is mass intention the human creative
potential directed into common visions may be channeled and used for
the highest destiny of us all.
