In the 1980's, I began working for a major aircraft engine manufacturer. It was the beginning of my married and family life and the job was exactly what I required, when i required it, to provide for my new family.
In the course of working, I met many new friends and co-workers. One of those was Richard, with whom I had many deep and insightful conversations. He was studying a martial art, Gohn Dagow, which I had never heard of, but which, in his sharing, piqued my interest.
He invited me to a Hak Seong Sharing, which is an invitation only gathering, of practioners and friends and family of the art. It was where, for the first time in my experience, people hugged each other in greeting with Full Presence, aware and conscious of that Moment and the beauty of it. The students demonstrated the Kata that they had been studying, with a verbal presentation, explaining the movements.
This was also when i had the honor of meeting Futsu (master) Francis Treon and experiencing the aura of anothers' mastery of Chi. I still see the twinkle in his eye, as he looked into my eyes and "saw" me.......as a reference.....the phrase "I See You" from the film Avatar....without words involved, simply an energetic meeting and acknowledgement of "Beingness", and nothing was hidden from his gaze, and....that was ok by me.
After this wonderful afternoon of sharing, I spoke with Richard and voiced my interest in studying with him, as he was an instructor at the time. There was an interview process and I was accepted as a student.......unfortunately, after a short period of time, I became distracted, missed classes, allowed lifes' little bumps in the road to consume my consciousness and generally went back to sleep
The thing is, the small amount of understanding I did assimilate from the teachings, have had a profound effect on my experience.
I am deeply grateful for having had the opportunity to experience this Art and I fervently hope it can continue to be offered to those called to the experience.
