I was deeply touched and moved to read a wonderful teaching from and Indian (Cherokee) chief, which i thought i would share with all of you, for it has a message that can completely transform our life from resistance to acceptance to transcendence.
“An old Cherokee Chief was teaching his grandson about Life.”A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves. One is evil; he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt and ego. The other is good; he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside of you and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Chief simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Yes, let us not feed that which can keep us hungry for peace forever, which again comes out of our conscious practice of being awake moment to moment vigilant of the thoughts and emotions playing in the mind. Let us vow to withdraw our participation from the negative energies that can steal our happiness in life.
My adoration to the Cherokee Chief for this timeless teachings.
