I have had a skin condition which is called Vitiligo, since the onset of puberty. It may have come to your attention through Michael Jackson, as he also had this condition. If not, then please know, that Michael did not bleach his skin. As I am a fairly light skinned person, it is not as big a contrast with me, although I have had people ask if I was a burn victim. The answer to that question is No, except if I get too much sun, as there is no melanin in the areas of the skin affected, so it is straight to very burned....no stop over into the "tanned" arena. It bothered me a bit in my teens, emotionally, as with anyone or anything that is different from the "norm", is usually made fun of....None are so cruel, as those that view themselves as perfect, and anyone different, as less than perfect.
Anyway, the reason for this blog is to quite simply state, for me, it has been a lesson in Oneness. You see, the color of ones skin, does not define the Being that they are. Yes, society and customs within each segment of society, can and does create boundaries of separation, yet truly, these are illusion which we are taught to accept as "the way it is". And as the song of that title says..."But, Ahhhh, don't you believe them"
We are and always will be ONE Human Family.
So, if you encounter someone with patches of light skin, see them as the beautiful Human Beings that they Are, after you have gone to wondering what's "wrong" with them.... they are a reminder of what we ALL are....ONE beneath the skin.
